SAINT-GOBAIN set for Ecobuild

Leading international construction materials company Saint-Gobain is set to take centre stage at this years’ Ecobuild, with an impressive two-storey stand packed with innovative construction solutions.

Additionally, a major presence at the exhibit is the Nottingham H.O.U.S.E (Home Optimising the Use of Solar Energy), futa full sized zero carbon house which is set to be one of the exhibition’s major attractions.

Focusing on delivering a more sustainable ure and solutions for more energy efficient buildings, the Saint-Gobain stand focuses on four key sectors – healthcare, education, commercial and residential – showcasing products and technologies from its UK and Ireland manufacturing companies in complete systems for different applications in both new build and refurbishment.

Features include a through-the-wall system and residential refurbishment solutions for both social and private projects, demonstrating how Saint-Gobain and its companies are at the forefront of providing sustainable, highly energy efficient solutions to the construction and housing sector.

Located close to the Saint-Gobain stand is the Nottingham H.O.U.S.E – an energy efficient, zero carbon solar powered home designed and built by a team of students from the University of Nottingham’s Department of the Built Environment (DBE). The H.O.U.S.E is the UK’s only entry into the first International Solar Decathlon Europe competition to design and build Europe’s most effective and energy efficient zero carbon solar powered house. Saint-Gobain is the main technical partner and sponsor for the project.

The Nottingham H.O.U.S.E has been constructed entirely from materials supplied by Saint-Gobain’s UK companies including Saint-Gobain Isover, British Gypsum, Weber, Saint-Gobain Glass, Solaglas, International Timber, Pasquill and Greenworks, providing total solutions to optimise energy efficiency.

Demonstrating how low energy architecture can lend itself to the mass market, the building’s versatile L-shaped, modular design can be worked into terraces, rows or stacked as apartments.  The resulting concept is a highly marketable, zero carbon starter home for a new family – a major requirement in the UK.

Mike Chaldecott, chair of the Saint-Gobain Habitat Group and managing director of British Gypsum, comments: “Saint-Gobain is to have a significant presence at Ecobuild with both its main stand and its leading role in the Nottingham H.O.U.S.E. Both exhibits will showcase a range of Saint-Gobain products and demonstrate how these work in practice to offer total product solutions.

“Saint-Gobain is focused on the delivery of sustainable construction and our partnership with the University of Nottingham has provided technical expertise and support to the team, enabling them to showcase the best in innovation and design. We look forward to unveiling the H.O.U.S.E at Ecobuild.”

Saint-Gobain manufacturing companies British Gypsum, Saint-Gobain Glass UK, Isover, Weber, Saint-Gobain PAM, Saint-Gobain Abrasives, Solaglas and Ecophon are to have a significant presence on the Group stand while Jewson, part of Saint-Gobain Building Distribution, is to have its own exhibition stand featuring the range of sustainable building solutions available from its nationwide network of businesses.
